One hundred fifty-eight cases of diabetes mellitus who were admitted to Chonnam University hospital from April 1967 to May 1972 were studied, and the results were as following:
1) Of 158 cases, 95 cases (60. 13%) were male and 63 cases (39. 87%) were female showing an incidence ratio of 3 : 2.
2) Age distribution was 33. 5% in 5th decade, 32. 3% 4th decade, 17. 7% 3rd decade, and 10. 8% in 6th decade in the order.
3) Frequent symptoms were thirst (48.7%), polyuria (43.6%), weakness (13.3%), fatigability 1(12. 7%)and weight loss (12. 7%) etc.
4) Complications were hypertension (26.6%), pulmonary tuberculosis (17. 1%), aeuro Dathy (7.1%) retinopathy (6.3%), nephropathy (8. 9%), dermopathy (13. 9%), and liver diseases (13.3%).
5) 88. 4 percent of cases had good response to the treatment with diet control, oral hypoglycemic agents, and insulin.
